Time Management Tips for Designers
As a designer, your entire day, week, month, even year (maybe) revolves around deadlines, and oftentimes “24 hours” just doesn’t cut it. Time is vital for us, and time management is a very important skill if you want to get everything turned in on time without rushing at the last minute. Here are a few tips to help you stay on point and become more productive as a designer.
Make a To-Do List
Being organized helps you stay on track, and a realistic to-do list can help you set specific goals to accomplish for the day.
Choose to-do’s that are the most important and need to get done first. This will help you focus on the most relevant projects.
Work on Major Projects One at a Time
Quality over quantity! If you work on multiple projects at the same time, your output quality begins to plummet, resulting in poor designs and unimpressive work.
Work on Projects You Hate First
Finishing projects you don’t like first will allow you to spend more time on the ones you do enjoy.
Stop Wasting Precious Time
Social media is hard to get away from when you’re in front of a monitor all day. Limit your time on Facebook and Twitter (or completely close those sites while working) to fully concentrate on the project at hand.
Break Down Large Projects
There are times when clients need to revamp their entire brand, meaning you have to work on logos, stationery, web design, and other materials. Breaking down these huge tasks into manageable chunks will help you be more efficient, and it can also stop you from jumping back and forth between tasks.
Following these tips will help you become a more professional and productive designer, so use your time wisely!
